Student Awards and Grants

Students are encouraged to submit abstracts for consideration of the ISS25 Symposium Student Awards and Student Grants.

Student Awards

All students have the option to be considered for a Student Award. These awards include:

  • Best Student Oral Presentation
  • Best Student Poster
  • Maxwell Doty Memorial Prize for Valuable Research in Applied Phycology
The award recipients will be selected by NOC and ISAC based on the overall quality of the abstract, and they will present their study/research at the Symposium.
Please indicate if you are a student and provide proof that you are an undergraduate, master’s or PhD student during your abstract submission. Either one of the following may be submitted as proof:
  • Copy of your student ID that is current and valid
  • Letter from your supervisor or institution

If you do NOT want to be considered for the Student Award, you have an option to opt out for the awards consideration during your abstract submission.

Student Grants

The Student Grants are to support student attending the International Seaweed Symposium in person. To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be enrolled as an undergraduate, master’s or PhD student.
  • Submit your abstract via the ISS25 Online Portal by the deadline October 8, 2024.
  • Complete the application form and send it to [email protected] by October 8, 2024.
  • Priority will be given to countries where the student is in need of funds for attending the International Seaweed Symposium. The motivation letter by the student should explain the situation.
  • Priority will be given to individual students presenting oral presentations, thus taking into consideration the quality of the abstract. Poster presentations will be also considered according to the evaluation by the reviewer committee.
  • The research/study to be presented should be applied research on seaweed.
  • Consideration will be given to the overall relevance and importance of participating in the ISS25

Chosen candidates will be notified via email in January 2025. If you are successful in being awarded a travel grant, you will be responsible for covering any expenses not included in the grant through alternative funding sources.
